Founded and sustained by the families of Omanthai and the surrounding villages of the Vavuniya District.

The Arulmigu Arasarpathi Sri Kannagi Amman Potkovil stands in Omanthai, on the Vavuniya–Mannar road in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. For generations the deity Sri Kannagi Amman — the heroine of the Tamil epic Silappatikaram, venerated as a goddess of justice and chastity — has been worshipped at this site by the families of the surrounding villages.
Today the temple is in the middle of a generational expansion: a 37-foot Theer Muttri (chariot pedestal) — the tallest of any temple in the Vavuniya District — has just been completed, and a 120-foot multipurpose mandapam is rising on the temple grounds. A Kumbabhishekam is being prepared in tandem.
None of this would be possible without the small monthly contributions of devotees, the prayer of distant families and the daily labour of those who live nearby.

A significant share of temple income returns directly to the surrounding villages — through scholarships, medical aid and free meals.
Beyond pujas, the temple actively teaches Hindu Dharma and the classical fine arts to the next generation of devotees.
All decisions concerning the temple's works, finances and festivals are taken collectively by the Sabai. Devotees are welcome to attend, ask questions, and inspect the accounts.
